Vast amount of avifaunistic and zoogeographical materials collected in the west of Eurasian taiga has been analysed. A generalised scheme of ornithological landscape zoning of Karelia and East Fennoscandia is proposed. The following zoogeographical regions are distinguished within the taiga zone: southern, transitional, northern and low- to mid-mountaine region of Lapland. The zonal sequence of local bird faunas along 61-69° N gradient is described. Changes in the total density of the bird population and fauna genetic structure depending on the latitude were determined. Ornithological landscape zoning of Karelia was performed using a complex of faunistic and zoological criteria. Sixteen landscape-ornithological districts were identified. The basic zoogeographical
characteristics of the districts are given.
