The paper reports the results of research into local geographic terms related to water objects. Prevalence of hydrographic over terrestrial place names in Karelia is explained. The main output of the study is the glossary of local geographic terms of hydrographic nature included in the Baltic Sea region place names (within Republic of Karelia).
